For over 13 years I've been turning knobs. What I really do is tell stories. Starting out in bedrooms and rehearsal rooms, I learned that the best mix is the one you don't perceive as a "mix". It's about vibe and emotion, not technology. And not about the loudest mix, even though mixing loud is always fun. ;) It's about presenting the song the way it reaches you most. You can't measure emotion in dB. But you can make it audible.
After many sessions as a recording and mixing engineer, I know this: the projects that stuck with me were always the ones where everyone in the room felt heard. Telling a story together through music, that's what I want for as many projects as possible. It's about honesty and trust. If you get goosebumps, I've done my job right.
